CLIP are excited to launch our Community Music projects, working with youth groups in Colchester, Clacton and Maldon.
CLIP will deliver three five-week programmes designed in collaboration with local organisations that support communities who may face barriers to accessing creative opportunities. Each project will be shaped around the interests and needs of participants, using music-making as a way to build confidence, develop skills, and create meaningful social connections.
Supported by Essex County Council’s Arts and Cultural Fund, the project will work with community partners to create welcoming, inclusive spaces where young people can explore music, technology, and self-expression.
Our partners for the project are:
The Outhouse, Colchester – a charity supporting LGBTQ+ young people in Essex. In this programme, participants will create their own podcasts, learning skills in storytelling, recording, editing, and hosting while exploring the topics and interests that matter to them.
African Families in the UK CIC, Clacton – a community organisation supporting African diaspora families across Essex. Participants in this programme will explore DJing and music production, learning how to mix tracks, experiment with sound, and develop their own creative identity through music.
Mid Essex Co-operative Academy, Maldon – a school supporting young people who have found traditional education settings challenging. This extra-curricular programme will offer small-group sound and music workshops that encourage curiosity, collaboration, and creative exploration.
At CLIP, we believe music-making should be playful, experimental, and accessible. Our workshops combine creative technology with hands-on exploration, encouraging participants to try new ideas, work collaboratively, and discover their own creative voice. We create environments where participants feel comfortable taking risks and experimenting with sound.
An important part of this programme will be ensuring participants have safe and inclusive ways to share their work. We prioritise low-stakes sharing opportunities, such as listening sessions with peers, informal community gatherings, and digital documentation that friends and family can enjoy. These moments celebrate participants’ achievements while maintaining a supportive environment that builds confidence rather than pressure.
Through Essex Community Music Projects, we hope to empower young people across Essex to express themselves, connect with others, and discover the joy of making music together.
We look forward to sharing the sounds, stories, and creative journeys that emerge from the project over the coming months.
